DESCRIPTION
GARDOX horizontal joint sealant is a pourable, two-component, cold-applied compound for sealing joints in concrete. The product contains chemically reactive polymers, plasticized with coal tar, that cure to a durable, rubber-like joint seal that offers a firm, smooth, non-tracking surface, retaining flexibility from -20° F (-29° C) to over 200° F (93° C). GARDOX effectively seals the joint against water infiltration and rejects incompressibles. GARDOX is resistant to jet fuels and most common solvents and chemicals. GARDOX can accommodate a joint movement of +/-25% when a 2:1 minimum width-to-depth ratio is maintained and proper application techniques are followed.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
* Formulated with chemically reactive urethane polymers modified with coal tar, which cure to form a durable, rubber-like joint seal.
* Provides a firm, smooth, non-tracking surface in summer ... retains flexibility in winter.
* Requires no caulking gun or special metering equipment ... blends by hand or with a slow-speed drill.
* Resistant to jet fuels, most common chemicals and solvents.
* Mix and pour right from the container.
* Easy and economical to use.
PACKAGING
1 gallon unit consists of ½ gallon (1.89 L) of base and ½ gallon (1.89 L) of catalyst in an imperial gallon container.
4 gallon unit consists of two gallons (7.57 L) of catalyst in a two-compartment, five-gallon (18.93 L) pail.
SHELF LIFE
GARDOX should be stored in a cool warehouse. Like many top quality, two-component sealants, GARDOX has a limited (maximum six months) shelf life.
NOTE: Do not open pail until ready to use, as this significantly reduces shelf life.
COVERAGE
7.47 gal./ft³ (1000 L/m³). A 1/2” x 1/4” (12.7 x 6.3 mm) joint will require 0.65 gallons/100 lineal feet (8 L/100 m).
USES
GARDOX is recommended for sealing horizontal joints on highways, airport runways, bridges, plaza decks and driveways. Interior uses include sealing joints in industrial floors, garage floors, airplane hangar floor joints, etc. SPECIFICATIONS

APPLICATION
Surface/Joint Preparation…Remove foreign substances, incompressibles and free water from joint opening. For proper adhesion, joints must be clean and dry. Dust, dirt and laitance should be removed prior to application.
Priming…GARDOX adheres well to unprimed concrete; however, the use of P/G PRIMER from W. R. MEADOWS is recommended for optimum adhesion.
Joint Sizes
Use in HORIZONTAL joints only. Proper joint design practices and application techniques must be followed for successful performance. GARDOX should NOT be used in joints less than 1/4” (6.35 mm) wide. A 2:1 width-to-depth ratio should be maintained. However, in no case should joint sealant depth be less than 1/4” or exceed 1/2”. To control sealant depth, insert W. R. MEADOWS KOOL-ROD™ backer rod or CERAMAR® in the joint before sealing. For larger joints, where additional support is required, use a non-asphalt joint filler such as CORK EXPANSION JOINT from W. R. MEADOWS. For straight joint edges, mask off top surfaces with masking tape.
Mixing…THE TWO COMPONENTS ARE PRE-MEASURED TO EXACT QUANTITIES. MIX ALL MATERIAL SUPPLIED IN BOTH CONTAINERS; DO NOT MIX PARTIAL UNITS. It is absolutely essential that the catalyst and base material be thoroughly integrated and completely blended to achieve the required “chemical cure” and to function effectively.
To blend properly, pour the catalyst from the top container into the larger base material container. Then blend thoroughly, either by hand, mixing with a wooden paddle or with a slow speed drill and flat-bladed paddle used with care. In either case, the materials must be thoroughly stirred around and up and down ... the sides and bottom of the container must be scraped occasionally to assure complete integration of the two components. For mechanical mixing, use a typical commercial mixing paddle. These are available in most paint and hardware stores. DO NOT USE a bent rod stock mixer.
Application Method
Pour GARDOX into joint with any clean, suitable pouring container. NOTE: GARDOX has a work life of approximately three hours; less at temperatures above 70° F (21° C). GARDOX will self-level and cure to a rubber-like compound in 72 hours at air and surface temperatures above 70° F (21° C). Surface may be dusted with talc or cement to reduce surface tack. Sealant will be tack-free in approximately 12 hours.
